Berane Court panel of judges orders temporary confiscation of monument to Djurisic

Berane Court panel of judges orders temporary confiscation of monument to Djurisic

Podgorica, (MINA) - The panel of judges at the Berane Basic Court has upheld the appeal filed by the Berane Prosecutor’s Office and ordered the police to temporarily confiscate the monument to Chetnik commander Pavle Djurisic, Vijesti reports.

This decision overturns the ruling of Berane Basic Court judge Dubravka Popovic, who on Friday, for the fifth time, rejected the prosecution’s request for the temporary confiscation of the monument.

“The Court has ordered the temporary confiscation of the said monument from the premises and other buildings that are part of the Djurdjevi Stupovi Monastery, as the item may serve as evidence in the criminal proceedings against defendant Vujadin Dobrasinovic for the criminal offense of aiding and abetting the illegal erection of the monument”, the press release reads.

It is also stated that Bishop Metodije is required to hand over the statue of Djurisic “which is located within the premises and other buildings belonging to the Djurdjevi Stupovi Monastery in Berane”.

“If he refuses, he may be fined up to EUR 1,000, and in case of continued refusal, he may face imprisonment”, the Court added.
