DPS calls for parliamentary hearing on pensioners’ living conditions

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The parliamentary group of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) has initiated a parliamentary oversight hearing of relevant ministers due to what it describes as the difficult situation faced by pensioners.

Head of the DPS parliamentary group Andrija Nikolic said at a press conference that the party had requested a hearing involving Minister of Economic Development Nik Gjeloshaj, Finance Minister Novica Vukovic, Minister of Social Welfare, Family Care and Demography Damir Gutic, and Director of the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund Vladimir Drobnjak regarding the impact of rising prices on pensioners’ living standards.

Nikolic said there is justified concern that the living standards of the elderly population could deteriorate further.

The initiative was also signed by chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget Boris Mugosa, and Member of Parliament Milos Konatar of the United Reform Action (URA).

Nikolić stated that, according to official data from the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund, the average pension in Montenegro is approximately €553. The minimum pension amounts to €450 and is received by more than 47,000 pensioners.

“At the same time, 112,000 pensioners receive pensions below the average salary in the country, which is around €1,000,” Nikolic added.

According to official data from Monstat, cumulative inflation in Montenegro exceeded 30 percent between 2021 and 2024.
