Efficient work of prosecution seen as foundation for rule of law

Podgorica, (MINA) - The efficient work of the prosecution, combined with timely and lawful decisions by the courts, is the foundation for achieving visible and sustainable results in the rule of law, Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Markovic and EU Ambassador to Montenegro Johann Sattler agreed.

According to the press release from the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office (VDT), both parties emphasized that the State Prosecutor’s Office must remain independent, professional and operating solely on the basis of the Constitution and the law, and not under the influence of political or individual interests.

Markovic presented the results achieved in the previous period, including activities in the fight against corruption and organized crime, prosecution of war crimes, improving the protection of journalists and media property, combating environmental crime, as well as the commitment to the fight against domestic violence.

“Special emphasis was placed on the importance of constituting a new convocation of the Prosecutorial Council within the legal deadline, as a precondition for continuation of the reform activities within the prosecutor’s office”, the press release says.

According to the press release, Sattler expressed his support for the reform initiatives carried out by the State Prosecutor’s Office, aimed at strengthening the rule of law and accelerating Montenegro’s European integration path.

He said that he expects the State Prosecutor’s Office to continue to deliver concrete results, especially in the fight against organized crime and corruption, which is essential for the fulfillment of the final criteria for Montenegro’s EU membership under Chapters 23 and 24.
