Government approves procurement of two firefighting aircraft and two helicopters

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Government of Montenegro has tasked the relevant ministries and institutions with examining the market and submitting a proposal for the most favorable offer for the procurement of two multi-purpose aircraft and two firefighting helicopters to be used for firefighting, evacuation, search and rescue.

The Information adopted by the Government states that the existing helicopter resources within the Rescue and Protection Directorate do not provide sufficient capacity for effective firefighting, especially in the context of climate change, which is contributing to increasingly frequent and intense fire seasons.

“Procurement of two multi-purpose helicopters would ensure more stable operational availability, reduce dependence on a technically outdated fleet”, says the Government.

The information states that it is necessary to provide airplanes that, in addition to helicopters, would serve as a key component of the protection and rescue system from the air.

During the session, the Government also adopted the amendments to the Decision on the introduction of international restrictive measures established by decisions of the Council of the European Union and EU regulations regarding the situation in Belarus and the involvement of that country in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
