Podgorica (MINA-BUSINESS) – According Minister of Public Works Majda Adzovic, construction at Velje Brdo will begin with preventive measures to protect the Mareza water source, as envisaged by a preliminary hydrogeological study assessing the impact of the development on the water source.
The preliminary study was prepared by Geoprojekt based on the available existing documentation.
The study states that previous research had not precisely defined the catchment area of the Mareza water source or the directions of groundwater flow.
However, it identifies the karst hinterland of Mareza, which includes the Velje Brdo area, as a potentially vulnerable zone. It adds that this approach is based on the precautionary principle and reflects a responsible attitude toward protecting the water source.
The study notes that, depending on the results of further research, the Velje Brdo area could be classified as either a Zone II or Zone III sanitary protection area, or could ultimately fall outside those zones.
Under the current regulations, construction is not prohibited in Zones II and III, although certain restrictions and conditions must be observed during the design and construction phases.
