Montenegro becoming a strategic part of Europe’s clean energy space and increasingly attractive for financing

Budva, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at the third panel of the EPCG NET energy symposium that Montenegro has become part of the strategic expansion of Europe's clean energy and industrial space, while investments in power grids and a just transition are essential to unlocking the full potential of renewable energy sources.

Speaking at the panel titled “Financing Renewable Energy Projects,” Head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Representation to Montenegro Davor Kunc said Montenegro’s progress is a significant achievement.

“The basic prerequisites have always existed – abundant hydropower, wind and solar potential. What has changed are the public policy framework, greater visibility of project pipelines and the regional integration of energy markets,” Kunc said.

According to him, Montenegro and the region hold strong natural potential as well as a strategically important geographic position at the crossroads between European Union (EU) markets and broader energy corridors, PR Centre reported.

“From the perspective of a financier, that is a good combination. On the one hand, there is a strong need for transition, and significant natural potential on the other. That is something a long-term financier values, provided the framework is credible,” Kunc said.

He added that Montenegro has already completed a significant part of the work in terms of public policies and the regulatory framework, describing it as important preparation for EU membership.
