EC confirms rule of law results achieved by prosecutorial service

Podgorica, (MINA) – The State Prosecutor’s Office has achieved significant results in combating all forms of crime, particularly organized crime, corruption and war crimes, demonstrating the strength and capacity to conduct complex and cross-border investigations, the European Commission (EC) assessed in the latest Rule of Law Report.

The Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office (VDT) announced that the EC had concluded that the reforms in the prosecutorial organization delivered measurable results and contributed to meeting the final benchmarks in negotiation chapters 23 and 24, which is the pillar of Montenegro’s EU integration process.

It is stated that the strengthening of the capacities of the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office and the Special State Prosecutor’s Office was particularly emphasized, noting that these institutions responded more effectively to the most complex forms of crime.

“The EC emphasizes in its document the proactive investigations against organized criminal groups, improvement of cooperation with international partners, as well as intensive use of financial investigations in cases involving organized crime and money laundering”, the press release states.

The VDT added that the cooperation among state institutions, which contributes to the more effective detection and prosecution of corruption-related crimes, was particularly positively assessed.
