MFA: Allegations of hybrid war against Serbia unfounded and inappropriate

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has rejected as unfounded and inappropriate statements made by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who accused Montenegro of waging a hybrid war against Serbia and endangering its interests.

The MFA wrote in a post on the X social network that it is obvious that the closer Montenegro comes to achieving its strategic goal, the membership in the EU, and the closer the elections are, the more frequent such statements become from the neighboring country, reflecting the unwillingness of certain political structures to accept the simple fact that they are surrounded by sovereign, internationally recognized and equal states.

The Ministry recalled that Montenegro did not restore its independence against anyone, nor in spite of anyone.

“Citizens of Montenegro freely, democratically and in a referendum, the results of which were recognized worldwide, made a decision to restore the country’s independence and reaffirm the dignity to one of the oldest states in Europe”, said the MFA.

They also recalled that the foreign policy of Montenegro is clear, consistent and principled.

“As a responsible NATO member and a country which is a front-runner in the EU accession process in the Western Balkans, we make our decisions independently, sovereignly and exclusively in accordance with the interests of our citizens and the state of Montenegro”, said the MFA.

The Ministry added that Montenegro wants the best possible relations with all its neighbors, including Serbia.

“However, good-neighborly relations can only be built on mutual respect, equality and acceptance of reality”, the Ministry underscored.
