Podgorica, (MINA) – The Preokret Movement leader Srdjan Peric said on Saturday that the party received public support from the Democratic People’s Party (DNP) and written support from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) for his election as chair of the Capital City Assembly.
Speaking at a press conference, Peric said that there are certain indications of support, which will enable him to secure the conditions for his election as chair of the Capital City Assembly, Vijesti reports.
Peric recalled that Preokret had sought support for a model that does not imply the formation of a coalition, but the election of an Assembly chair and the resolution of the political crisis in Podgorica, stating that DNP and DPS did not condition their support.
He expressed expectation that one of the first items on the agenda of the Capital City Assembly to be a report on the performance of Podgorica Mayor sasa Mujovic, on which further steps would depend.
Peric added that a collegium with the heads of councilor clubs was scheduled for Monday, June 15, and that he expected the session to be scheduled for Thursday, June 18, when they expect the other parties to state their positions as well.
“We need the support of the citizens and we also need the support of the councilors, because this means changing the rules of the game by returning to the framework of the law and ensuring oversight of the local government”, said Peric.
He said that this was not a model that can be implemented only by Preokret, but a model that required support of all councilors.
“It means that we will prevent the introduction of a forced administration. It means that we will have a city administration open for citizens’ initiatives”, stated Peric, adding that this means that bylaws regarding the prevention of partitocracy would be adopted.
