Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Member of Parliament Milos Konatar of the United Reform Action (URA) said that increasing pensions for Montenegrin pensioners by €40 per month does not require additional budget funds or new borrowing.
He said that the URA proposal is not populism, but rather a necessity for pensioners who cannot maintain a normal standard of living on current pension amounts amid rising prices and inflation.
Konatar questioned whether anyone in Montenegro truly believes that a 1.33 percent pension increase this year is sufficient to offset rising costs and ensure a decent life for pensioners.
“URA believes that pensioners in Montenegro deserve a better standard of living, greater respect, and higher pensions. That is why we proposed amendments to the law that would increase pensions by €40 without placing additional burdens on the state budget or requiring new borrowing,” Konatar stated.
He added that if the proposal is adopted, pensioners could begin receiving the increased pensions on 1 July.
