Media Trade Union urges Government to take clear stance on Gaza

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Media Trade Union of Montenegro (SMCG) has urged the Government to clearly define its position on the war and crimes against humanity in Gaza and, as they stated, to stop avoiding concrete actions.

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Milojko Spajic, Minister of Culture and Media Tamara Vujovic, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimovic and members of the Parliament, the Union expressed deep solidarity with civilians and journalists affected by the humanitarian disaster in Gaza.

“What is happening in Gaza today is a war and a crime against humanity: hunger is being used as a weapon, and the denial of basic living conditions, including medicine and drinking water, is happening before the eyes of the world”, the press release said.

The SMCG said that the only remaining witnesses to the crimes and suffering in Gaza are local journalists, adding that at least 187 journalists and media workers have been killed since the beginning of the war in Gaza.

The SMCG urged the Government of Montenegro to clearly define its position on war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza and, as they stated, to stop hiding behind neutral formulations and take concrete actions.

They emphasized that Montenegro must stand on the side of truth, humanity and international law.
