Podgorica, (MINA) - The Government should conduct Montenegro’s foreign policy, including bilateral relations with Croatia, more responsibly than it has so far, said President Jakov Milatović.
Responding to a journalist’s question during his visit to Bijelo Polje, he said that he would always welcome an open good-neighborly approach when it comes to resolving outstanding issues with Croatia.
Milatovic stressed that, despite the fact that the Constitution clearly defines the role of the President in foreign policy, Prime Minister Milojko Spajic’s office and the Government avoid regularly informing him about numerous foreign policy activities.
“It is clear to that in the context of our European integration, Croatia has stronger leverage in these negotiations than Montenegro”, said Milatovic, adding that he hopes that Montenegro will not pay the price of completely unnecessary adoption of the Resolution on Jasenovac in the Parliament through certain compensations.
He pointed out that he does not have enough information to comment further on that issue, but reiterated that foreign policy and bilateral relations with Croatia should be conducted much more responsibly.
When asked about the wastewater treatment plant in Botun, Milatovic said that he hopes that a solution will be found that would satisfy both parties and emphasized the importance of dialogue.
“I saw in Podgorica Mayor, Sasa Mujovic, great determination and political will to build a water treatment plant”, Milatović said, adding that he also understands the concerns of Botun residents regarding the location.
According to him, the optimal solution would be to find a location acceptable to both parties. “I regret that it hasn’t been done so far”.
