Milatovic requests extraordinary Parliament session on election of Constitutional Court judge

Milatovic requests extraordinary Parliament session on election of Constitutional Court judge

Podgorica, (MINA) – President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, has submitted a request for an extraordinary Parliament session for September 15, which should consider the election of lawyer Mirjana Vucinic as a Constitutional Court judge, the president’s office announced.

It is stated that since the Parliament did not consider the proposal for Vucinic’s election during the regular spring session, despite Milatovic submitted the proposal in mid-May, he has now submitted a request for an extraordinary session for September 15.

“The passive attitude of the Parliament demonstrated so far, when it comes to filling vacant judicial positions in the Constitutional Court, further deepens the constitutional crisis, endangers the rule of law and slows down Montenegro’s European path”, the press release says.

The president’s office recalls that, in accordance with his constitutional powers, Milatovic issued a public call for the election of another judge of the Constitutional Court and that the procedure is ongoing.

“We call on the MPs to demonstrate responsibility and enable the completion of the Constitutional Court as the first line of defense of the legal and institutional order in the country”, the press release concludes.
