Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Since the beginning of May, the Tax Inspection Department has carried out a total of 1,980 inspections, with a particular focus on enforcing fiscal discipline and combating the informal economy.
As a result, fines totalling €1.47 million were issued in this period.
“From 1 May to 27 July, a total of 355 violations were identified. Consequently, 492 misdemeanour orders were issued, resulting in fines amounting to €1.47 million,” the Tax Administration stated in a press release.
Of that amount, €713,480 was charged, and €391,690, or 55 percent, has already been collected.
“The collected amount reflects payments made by taxpayers who accepted responsibility and paid the fines within eight days, receiving a one-third reduction in accordance with the Misdemeanours Law,” the Tax Administration explained.
A ban on conducting business was imposed on 18 taxpayers.
“During inspections, authorities observed a recurring practice among certain taxpayers of frequently cancelling taxable transactions by issuing so-called corrective receipts. This behaviour will remain a priority for further inspection and detailed analysis,” the press release reads.
While the law does allow for receipt corrections in cases of genuine error, frequent cancellations may indicate attempts to underreport revenue and evade tax obligations.
“All changes have been recorded in the Tax Administration’s electronic system, making it easy to verify whether an error occurred when issuing a receipt or if a violation took place,” the tax authority stated.
With the start of the summer tourist season, the Tax Inspection Department has intensified controls throughout the country to ensure businesses are operating in compliance with the law.
