Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Government of Montenegro and the companies Bechtel and Enka have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, aimed at improving infrastructure and strengthening the country's economic position.
“Montenegro and the United States continue to strengthen their economic cooperation, and this Memorandum of Understanding with Bechtel and Enka will contribute to infrastructure development in line with the economic cooperation agreement signed with the U.S.A. on 21 October last year,” the Government stated in a press release.
In the presence of U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro Judy Rising Reinke, the memorandum was signed by Prime Minister Milojko Spajic, Bechtel’s Regional President for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, Justin Siberell, and Enka Executive Board Member Ozger Inal.
Spajic stated that Montenegro had long dreamed of developing its infrastructure, often envisioning motorways connecting the coast and the north, facilitating access to the country’s natural beauty.
“This decades-long dream is no longer just a dream, it is becoming reality. Our strategic American partners are ready to support us on that path, sending their best engineering and construction companies to be part of Montenegro’s successful development,” said Spajic.
He added that this was a logical step after the Memorandum signed with the U.S. last October, which will not remain just a symbolic gesture, but serve as a foundation for decades of economic cooperation between the two countries.
Rising Reinke noted that the Memorandum of Understanding reflected a shared vision for economic growth, regional connectivity, and cooperation.
“This agreement highlights Montenegro’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure that will unlock new opportunities for its citizens, U.S. companies, and the Western Balkans. It also reaffirms that the cooperation between our two countries, formalized last year in Washington. D.C. through our bilateral economic dialogue, continues to deliver results,” said Rising Reinke.
She added that the U.S. was proud to support Montenegro in taking on an important integrative role in the region.
Siberell expressed enthusiasm about the potential cooperation with the Montenegrin government on a strategic regional corridor that would include transportation, energy, and technology projects.
“Bechtel and Enka have a strong track record of developing high-quality infrastructure corridors across the Balkans, earning numerous awards for our excellence in environmental protection, project management and financing,” Siberell noted.
The main objective of the Memorandum is to foster Montenegro’s economic growth, reaffirming the commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and creating a favourable environment for future development.
