Labour migration an important regional issue

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The International Organization for Migration (IOM) will continue to provide support to Montenegro, particularly in the context of managing labour migration and the European integration process, its representatives said at a meeting with Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Dialogue Naida Nisic.

Nisic met with head of the IOM Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina David Womble, who is the IOM coordinator for the Western Balkans, and the Head of the IOM Mission in Montenegro, Vladimir Gjorgjiev.

“They discussed past and future cooperation in the fields of labour migration, protection of workers’ rights, and strengthening institutional capacities, with particular emphasis on the importance of regional cooperation and social dialogue,” the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Dialogue stated in a press release.

Nišić said that the Ministry and IOM have close and constructive cooperation, as well as a shared readiness to jointly respond to the challenges of the modern labour market, in the interest of the domestic workforce and workers coming to Montenegro.

It was concluded that labour migration is an important regional issue that requires a coordinated and partnership-based approach.
