Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Last year, Montenegro recorded a budget deficit of €321.6 million, or 3.96 percent of estimated gross domestic product (GDP), while the current expenditure surplus amounted to €9.54 million.
According to the Ministry of Finance’s report on budget execution, preliminary data show that budget revenues amounted to €2.87 billion last year, which is €117.4 million, or 4.3 percent, more compared to 2024.
“The growth in budget revenue collection last year confirms strong economic activity, a reduction in the informal economy, and improved tax discipline, which reflects a stable and favorable situation in Montenegro’s public finances and, consequently, strengthens confidence in fiscal sustainability,” the report states.
Concrete results achieved already in the first year of implementation of the Government’s Fiscal Strategy have created a solid foundation for further economic growth.
The Ministry believes this was achieved thanks to measures such as the write-off of interest, the expansion of excisable products, the introduction of a new VAT rate in tourism, and improved collection of personal income tax.
