Mikic: Government humiliates pensioners by increasing pensions by 0.38 percent

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – By increasing pensions by €1.74, the Government has humiliated people who worked their entire lives, said MP Zoran Mikic of the United Reform Action (URA), adding that the responsible authorities should urgently reconsider this decision.

“On Monday, it was officially confirmed that pensions in Montenegro were increased by a mere 0.38 percent. This means that instead of a real, dignified, and realistic adjustment of the income of our oldest fellow citizens, they will receive €1.74 more per month than they have so far,” Mikic said.

According to him, the Government continues with its ad-hoc, short-term policy-making, while inflation, rising living costs, and increasing prices of food and medicines continue to devalue every euro of their hard-earned pensions.

“First they promised that pensions would be drastically increased, and now that we have reached the point where that promise should be fulfilled, pensioners have been given crumbs from the table,” Mikic stated.

He said that with such a small increase, the Government has humiliated people who worked their entire lives and who today are barely making ends meet.
