Saranovic: Part of political scene contributing to social destabilization

Podgorica, (MINA) - A significant segment of the political scene has been contributing to the implementation of multi-layered social destabilization, behind which, above all, is organized crime, its political patrons and part of the media scene, Minister of Internal Affairs, Danilo Saranovic has stated.

He made this statement this in the Parliament, responding to the question of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) MP Ivan Vukovic, who asked if he was satisfied with the security situation in Montenegro.

Saranovic said that Vukovic is a political follower of “the greatest evil that walked the Montenegrin land”.

Saranovic said that, aware of the weight of his words, he is to drop “a bomb” on Montenegro’s social and political life.

“Considering that we have initiated a decisive purge of crime from Montenegrin institutions and every pore of society, rest assured that we are ready to name the names, starting from May 31, 2000, when the security adviser to the then president of the country, Goran Zugic, was killed”, Saranovic said.

He said that the official documents, which he presented to the Parliament, would trigger a “political and social earthquake” in Montenegro.

New Serbian Democracy MP Jovan Vucurovic asked Saranovic about the state of affairs in the security sector at the time he took office, the role of certain former officials in the breakdown of the system and the evidence of political-criminal ties.

Saranovic replied that Dusko Markovic had been the head of national security for 12 years, adding that this period was marked by dozens and hundreds of mafia-style murders in Montenegro.

He stated that when the first SOCTA was drafted in Montenegro in 2009, the organized criminal group Skaljari had only around 30 members.

“When we took over the leadership over the security sector, just the two largest organized criminal groups had close to 700 members”, Saranovic said.

He stated that “the 44th Government has brought back the atmosphere of murders on the streets”.

Acting Chief of the Police Administration, Lazar Scepanovic, said that a balance of effective activities in the fight against organized crime and corruption had been achieved.

This information, as he stated, is based on the fact that during this year, all 12 registered murders have been solved.

“As a result of the conflict between organized criminal groups, we registered three murders and all three were solved swiftly”, Scepanovic said.

He said that in five years, between 2021 and today, 48 murders were registered, of which 12 were linked to organized crime and nine solved by the Police Administration.

“From 2016 to 2020, there were 98 murders, 43 of which were linked to organized crime. Of those, 27 remained unsolved”, Scepanovic said.
