Podgorica, (MINA) - The Zeta Municipal Assembly adopted a decision banning the construction of the wastewater treatment system in Botun.
The decision, proposed by Zeta Municipal President Mihailo Asanovic, as supported by independents councilors and representatives of the For the Future of Montenegro coalition, while two councilors of the Democrats abstained, the Vijesti portal reports.
The Assembly also voted on the amendments proposed by Democrats councilor Luka Krstovic, which did not receive support.
Krstovic assessed that Asanovic’s proposal contains no mechanisms for implementation.
“This decision does not say in a single about word how the construction of the plant will be prevented. It looks more like a political pamphlet and is completely declarative in nature”, said Krstovic.
In a press release issued following the session, Asanovic said that the decision was adopted by the votes of councilors from the ruling coalition.
He stated that he proposed rejecting Krstovic’s amendments, because, as he said, they would mean not recognizing the results of the referendum and enabling construction against the will of the citizens of Zeta.
Asanovic claims that the municipality of Zeta has the right, in accordance with the Law on Territorial Organization, to decide what can and cannot be built on its territory.
He added that the decision of the Zeta Parliament will be sent to the Government, the Parliament of Montenegro and the Capital City, and announced that at 11 a.m. on Friday he would hand over the decision to Podgorica Mayor Sasa Mujovic, together with citizens.
He said that the Municipality of Zeta will use all available legal means, including addressing the courts and filing criminal charges, but also that, if the institutions do not react, they would continue with protests and other forms of resistance.
